HP's Todd Bradley refutes webOS shutdown rumors
HP's Todd Bradley showed up on Bloomberg last night for a quick round of webOS damage control. Following a report from the The Guardian, saying the company would in fact kill the webOS division, Bradley referred to the report as an "unfounded rumor." He went on to say that "accolades for the operating system are broadly known" and that the company is focusing on how to "effectively utilize that phenomenal software."...

GM increasing Opel Ampera production target given higher-than-expected pre-orders
Filed under: EV/Plug-in, Opel, Europe/EU The Opel Ampera may be very similar to the Chevy Volt under the skin, but a lot of people in the U.S. would argue that the Euro-plug-in's skin is far more attractive. Apparently a lot of Europeans agree. First year production for the Ampera had been targeted for 8,000 units, but high demand has caused that number to be moved up....

Nokia World 2011 wrap-up

Nokia World 2011 wrap-up
Nokia had something to prove at its annual event, and an eight-month turnaround of its smartphone arm is certainly nothing to be sniffed at. While Nokia's first Windows Phone devices were undoubtably the stars of the two-day expo, there was plenty more to investigate -- Nokia's legion of development labs certainly didn't let us down....

Jolicloud heads to the actual cloud, Joli OS gets open-sourced
Mum's been the word from the Jolicloud camp over the past few months -- summer vacation, we get it -- but the company has apparently been working quite diligently on what's next: the "new Jolicloud platform." According to a mildly vague blog post from the outfit, the next edition of the OS will introduce "the personal cloud," enabling users to access the information stored there from "your iPhone, your Android phone,...

Olly: the web-connected robot that converts pings to odors
What if there were a way to add smells to the things you see every single day on the internet? To some, just the thought of that there scenario would induce nausea. New high-precision eye surgery robot helps doctors stay sharp
A researcher at the Netherland's University of Technology has invented a new type of eye surgery robot designed to steady the ophthalmologist's hands and minimize error -- always a good thing when it comes to having needles and knives near your peepers. Kind of like an Igor to a mad scientist, the robot is considered a "slave" to its "master" doctor, who controls the automaton's arms using two joysticks....
