Intel Promises x86 Phones In 2012

Intel Promises x86 Phones In 2012
During investment presentations, Intel CEO Paul Otellini admitted that the company's old strategy for mobile needed a makeover, but was optimistic about their prospects come 2012. Intel is redirecting itself towards the mobile arena, and with big goals, too. Otellini said Intel's focus would shift toward more ultra-mobile hardware like phones and tablets, and look to make them more power-efficient than any device we're seeing in today's market....

Leaked: The Samsung "Hercules" For T-Mobile Is One Part Infuse 4G, One Part Monster
As our upcoming review of it will posit, I'm a pretty big fan of the AT&T Samsung Infuse 4G. It has its quirks — but overall, it's one of the finest Android experiences around. Samsung's not quite done tinkering with the idea just yet, though — at least, not if this latest rumor pans out....

Rescue robots map and explore dangerous buildings, prove there's no 'I' in 'team' (video)
We've seen robots do some pretty heroic things in our time, but engineers from Georgia Tech, the University of Pennsylvania and Cal Tech have now developed an entire fleet of autonomous rescue vehicles, capable of simultaneously mapping and exploring potentially dangerous buildings -- without allowing their egos to get in the way....

Apple proposing smaller SIM standard?

Apple proposing smaller SIM standard?
It looks like the Micro SIM (announced with Apple's first iPad last year) is destined to shed a few more grams, an Orange spokeswoman said -- contradicting an earlier rumor claiming that Apple is trying to kill off the chip altogether. SIM cards in their current form have been in use for over a decade (a Micro SIM is simply a standard chip without the extra plastic), and today's devices look...

HP releases 2011 Q2 earnings early, following leak of foreboding internal memo
HP kicked off this morning's Q2 earnings call citing a leaked company memo that recently popped up at Bloomberg. That memo, which had the outfit's CEO, Leo Apotheker warning of "another tough quarter," resulted in a five percent drop in HP shares in after-hours trading Monday, according to the Wall Street Journal, and prompted the release of the outfit's Q2 earning a day ahead of schedule -- an earnings call was...

Unannounced Samsung 'Hercules' headed to T-Mobile, bearing godlike specs?
The Samsung Infuse 4G is a beautiful 4.5-inch tabletphone, but it's not for the spec junkies of the world -- a single-core processor and Android 2.2 just don't impress such folk these days, regardless of actual performance. However, This is my next reports Samsung's cooking up a $350 handset that ticks all the boxes on the superphone list -- a beast of a smartphone it's tentatively calling the "Hercules." Mind you,...

NVIDIA's GTX 560 desktop GPU fills an exceedingly narrow pricing niche
With Tegra 2 hogging the spotlight, sometimes it's easy to forget that NVIDIA is still primarily in the business of making GPUs for computers. Yet, here it is with the GeForce GTX 560, another graphics chip ready to be inserted into mid-range gaming rigs. This smaller sibling of the GTX 560 Ti is designed to plug right into a small price gap in the company's lineup -- right around the $200...

Garmin nuLink! 2390 torn apart by FCC, put back together again on US site
Last week Garmin announced the latest member of its high-end GPS navigator family, the nuLink! 2390. Sadly, it was a Europe only affair, leaving American consumers wondering why the company was giving us the cold shoulder. (Whatever it was baby, we're sorry, come back.) Then we spotted an unnamed 4.3-inch Garmin making its way through the FCC that matches up quite nicely, size- and feature-wise, with the 2390....

Orb Audio modular stereo speaker systems review
Hey, do you like things that sound good? That's funny, we do too. In a world jam-packed with mass-produced, perfectly adequate home-theater-in-a-box solutions, it can be really hard to differentiate between speaker solutions for your computer, TV, or stereo system. It takes a lot for small-scale, high-quality systems to stand out and justify their costs, especially when entire surround kits can be had for under a hundred bucks....
